Constructed during mid 1800s, a turbulent time in Italy’s history, the Grand Hotel Plaza was initially the residential home of a noble Italian family from Piemonte. The Salone delle Feste or Great Salon was redecorated in the Belle Epoque Style (beautiful period) at the end of the 18th century .. thus creating a “Fin de siècle” atmosphere. French architecture and design were very popular at this time consequently the ceiling is classic “trompe l'oeil” held erect by tall marble columns and there a literally dozens of stained glass skylights and grand crystal chandeliers, The room alone makes a visit to the hotel worthwhile.
